Biography

Jiani Yun is a professional teaching fellow of the Chinese language at the faculty of Arts at the University of Auckland. She holds a Master's degree in MTCSOL (Teaching the Chinese Language to Other Language Speakers), which proved fundamental to her Ph.D. study toward Chinese-heritage teachers' experiences of teaching and assessing languages in contexts other than mainland China. Her Ph.D. research was to understand beginning Chinese-heritage teachers' professional development on assessment in the New Zealand secondary schools over time.

Jiani was a Chinese language teaching assistant in both Australia and New Zealand. She was also an ESOL and Chinese language teacher for four years in New Zealand communities. Her teaching experiences in New Zealand institutions and communities motivate her to explore and understand Chinese-heritage language teachers' professional development in contexts other than mainland China.
