Language Lab and Mac Multimedia Lab

The Faculty of Arts provides specialized computer labs for language-learning (the Language Lab) and for digital video and multimedia (the Macintosh Multimedia Lab)

Language lab

Location:
Human Sciences Building Room 411 (adjacent to the Arts Students' Centre and Audio Recording Studio).

Opening hours:
Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm.

Facilities:
20 student PCs, teacher PC, presentation equipment (data projector DVD, video) audio speakers and headsets, Sony Virtuoso Language Laboratory system.

Usage:
Self-access for enrolled language students; bookable for language laboratory classes with tutor.

Instructions:
Login instructions and a catalogue of audio and multimedia resources are available in the lab.

Resources:

  • Audio files of resources for languages: Chinese, Cook Islands Maori, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Maori, Russian, Samoan, Spanish, Tongan
  • Audio files of resources for: Anthropology, Ethnomusicology, Linguistics, Translation Studies, NATI Interpreting examinations
  • Video files of language resources for Maori
  • Multimedia software for Chinese, Film TV and Media Studies, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish.
  • Rosetta Stone software Italian Level 1 (10 licences), Level 2 (5 licences), Level 3 (4 licences), Level 4 (4 licences), Level 5 (3 licences).
  • Rosetta Stone software Spanish Level 1 (3 licences), Level 2 (3 licences), Level 3 (3 licences), Level 4 (3 licences), Level 5 (3 licences).

Macintosh Multimedia Lab

Location:
Human Sciences Building Room 160 (entry from Wynyard Street)

Opening Hours:
Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm

Facilities:
20 student iMacs, teacher iMac, presentation equipment (data projector, DVD, video) audio speakers and headsets, printer

Usage:
Self-access for enrolled Arts students; bookable for classes with tutor

Instructions:
Login instructions are available in the lab. Specialist logins for FTVMS students
