Undergraduate study
For Music in the BA you can study musical skills and analysis, the history of music, music as part of Western culture and popular music. You can gain a broad knowledge and understanding of Western musical techniques and styles. You can study the fundamental skills of harmony, counterpoint, aural and keyboard skills and analysis.
You also have opportunities to participate in the choir or orchestra. You may may be able to take these courses as part of the non-Arts points permitted in the BA.
You can study Music as:
- a BA major or minor subject
- elective courses in the BA
- a subject within the Certificate in Arts.

If you are thinking of majoring in Music you will need to take MUSIC 101 Aural Skills and Perception 1.
We recommend MUSIC 100 Basic Musical Techniques if you have basic competence in music theory and notation and want to bring your skills up to the entry level for MUSIC 101.
MUSIC 100 will also enable you to take other Stage I Music courses.
Requirements for a BA major and minor
For a single major you must pass at least 135 points, including at least 60 points above Stage II.
For a double major you must pass at least 120 points in each of two majors, including at least 45 points above Stage II in each major.
For a BA minor you must pass at least 90 points, including at least 60 points above Stage I.
