Music embraces all aspects of the history, practice and performance of Music.
Music courses are divided into two broad groups. The first provides training for students wanting professional careers as composers or performers or who want an all-round Music degree. These courses are taken as part of a Music degree. The second group of courses study Music as part of Western culture and are taken as part of an Arts degree.
Music and your career
The University of Auckland’s School of Music is widely recognised as New Zealand’s premiere music training institution, with courses designed to develop professional expertise for careers in the music industry. BA Music graduates can find careers in education, music libraries, broadcasting, sales and music journalism.
Study options in Music
Music is available for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Arts and is taught by the School of Music within the National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries.
