There are two Stage I courses in Māori if you have little or no knowledge of the language (Māori 101 Introduction to Written Māori and Māori 103 Introduction to Spoken Māori). If you are fluent in Māori or have studied it for at least three years at school, you may be able to begin with more advanced language courses.
When planning a major or minor in Māori Studies it is important to create strengths in particular subject areas,(e.g. anthropology, language and literature, history, politics) from the diverse range required to complete your BA degree.
There is a progression from Stage I courses to courses at a higher level. Prerequisites for advanced courses are listed under the description for each course.
You can also study Māori for the Diploma in Languages or the Certificate in Languages.
