About the School of Theology
The School of Theology explores beliefs and practices that have developed within Christianity from its beginnings until today. We give special attention to theology in the context of New Zealand, the Pacific and Asia.
We offer a full range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Theology, from the Bachelor of Theology through to PhD. You can study three main areas of theology: Biblical Studies, Christian Thought and History, and Practical Theology.

Our students come from many different backgrounds and bring varied perspectives to their study. You can study theology from within Christianity, from within another religious tradition or with no religious affiliation.
Our graduates pursue a range of careers, using the transferable skills they have gained. Some become teachers or enter the caring professions, while others are in church ministry.
We have a strong research culture and our staff are actively engaged in research and publication. Postgraduate research is one of our strengths. We have a large number of PhD students working on a wide range of topics.
Some School of Theology staff are members of the three Colleges of Theology with which the University of Auckland has a Memorandum of Agreement: the Catholic Institute of Theology, the College of St. John the Evangelist, and Trinity Methodist College. This gives you the opportunity to work with staff from different Christian perspectives.
The School of Theology is an active member of the Global Network of Public Theology, and we work collaboratively with other international organisations.
