About the Centre for Development Studies
The Centre for Development Studies engages with the critical issues of social change transforming global society today.
We offer a range of postgraduate programmes in Development Studies. We are proud to be part of The University of Auckland's social sciences, ranked 41st in the the world by the 2011 QS World University Rankings.
You can take both theoretical and applied approaches to Development Studies. The theoretical approach seeks to understand why and how societies, regions and communities change to improve quality of life. The more applied focus is on how governments, NGOs, international donors and other development agents can facilitate such change.
We provide a supportive environment for open, critical debate of leading development issues. You will be encouraged to design your own interdisciplinary course of study to suit your personal interests and career goals.
The postgraduate programme in Development Studies is supported by core staff within the Centre, supplemented by the expertise of staff throughout the Faculty of Arts and the University.
We have a wide range of research projects encompassing Asia and the Pacific, the Americas and Africa. We also have links with a number of overseas universities.
