Read more about Department of Classics and Ancient History staff research interests, projects and publications on individual staff homepages.
The Department of Classics and Ancient History also has an established and lively postgraduate programme, in which student research is supervised in an equally wide range of areas, including ancient languages, literatures, history, philosophy, art and religion.
We have established links with northern hemisphere institutes and universities (such as the British School at Rome) and strongly support staff and postgraduate students in pursuing research overseas and presenting research papers at international conferences.
Our doctoral students are currently researching on war and on sovereignty in Egypt, on Egyptian temple building at Jebel Barkal, on the construction of death in Egypt and early Greece, on Greek vases, on Cicero, on Seneca and on Apuleius, on Roman Civil War historiography and on Roman Imperialism.
