About the Centre for Pacific Studies
Located in the University’s Fale Pasifika complex, the Centre for Pacific Studies aims to promote an understanding of the Pacific Islands and issues of concern to Pacific Islanders.
We offer a full range of programmes in Pacific Studies, from Bachelor of Arts through to PhD. Pacific Studies allows you to take an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the Pacific region and its peoples. You can study Pacific history and politics, language and literature, art and performing arts.
Undergraduate students can also study Cook Islands Maori, Samoan and Tongan as subjects in their own right.
Research expertise in the Centre for Pacific Studies includes Pacific-focused development, ethnicity, education, ethnomusicology, indigenous knowledge, linguistics, music and dance, and sociology. This research provides a sound base for all our teaching.
We are internationally recognised for academic publications and consultancy experience. We participate in externally funded research projects designed to inform government policy.
Pacific Studies staff research
The Centre for Pacific Studies is a home for Pacific students at The University of Auckland. We offer mentoring programmes for all Pacific students and our traditional Fale is a space for discussion and support as well as teaching and learning.
