Postgraduate students

We offer a range of postgraduate qualifications in Art History, including diplomas, Honours, Masters and doctoral degrees.

Studying for a postgraduate qualification in Art History will allow you to you deepen your understanding of the discipline as well as develop your research skills.

You will be able to do so under the guidance of staff who are specialists in a wide range of fields, and who have extensive experience as researchers, writers and curators.

A postgraduate programme provides a first-rate training for critical thinking in the arts, which will be invaluable for those planning careers as curators, critics, consultants, academics or researchers.
 

Foreign language study for Art History postgraduates


To write a thesis and conduct original research in historical European art, we highly recommend a basic knowledge of either Italian, French, German or Spanish, depending on your topic. Courses in Māori and Pacific Island languages would also be useful for postgraduate work in those areas.
