Peggy Guggenheim Internships

Three students from the Department of Art History were selected for the 2010 / 2011 Peggy Guggenheim Internship programme: Katy Bond, Amy Stewart and Victoria Wynne-Jones.

This internship programme targeted current students and recent graduates studying art history, who were planning to proceed to further studies. It offered the opportunity to gain practical experience of museum work, and become familiar with one of the world’s most important collections of modern art.

The internships were two months in duration and interns participated in the daily operation of the museum four days a week. The work was varied, from preparing galleries to assisting Collection staff. Interns also participated in art historical or museological discussions and seminars conducted by fellow interns, staff members and visiting professionals.

Katy Bond

Katy is currently an undergraduate student in her third year and will be going on to do BA (Hons) in Art History in 2011. She looks forward to continuing her involvement with the Art History Department in her post-graduate studies.

She is interested in working for museums or public art galleries as she is particularly interested in conservation and art education.

Katy has studied Italian language for two years at the University and is currently enrolled in a paper on Italian Renaissance culture. She is excited to be able to see firsthand the art and architecture and aspects of Italian culture that she has studied.

Amy Stewart

Amy recently completed her BA(Hons) in Art History with a focus on the aesthetic of post-conflict art and the ethics of memorial representation in the work of Colombian artist Oscar Muñoz. She will begin her MA in 2011 for which she will investigate memorial and commemoration in the public space.

Amy's interest in art history began with a course on 20th Century art in Britain and the US and her interest in modernism continues, making the internship at the Guggenheim especially exciting.

Victoria Wynne-Jones

Victoria Wynne-Jones is currently working towards a Post-Graduate Diploma in Art History. She is investigating the concept of the event in contemporary performance art, in reference to the work of New Zealand born artist Alicia Frankovich.

Victoria has a wide-ranging interest in European cultures and languages and looks forward to experiencing first hand the treasures (both historical and contemporary) that Venice and Italy have to offer.

Natalie Bell

Natalie Bell is currently tutoring for the Department, while working towards her PhD in Art History. Her thesis topic is ‘The Other Woman: Non-marriage portraits of women in Renaissance Italy’

Sandra Cammell

Sandra was awarded an MA (Art History) at the Autumn Graduation, 2010. Her thesis focused on temporary art in public space and audience engagement.

Linda Yang

Linda completed her BA (Hons) in Art History in 2009. She is currently tutoring for the Department, while working towards her MA.
