Faculty of Arts
Admission to the PhD
For entry to the PhD you must have:
- a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) with high First Class Honours or a Master of Arts with Honours (First Class or Second Class, First Division) from The University of Auckland, or an approved equivalent qualification
- a demonstrated ability to pursue doctoral level research. You will need to have successfully undertaken a substantial research project as part of a prior qualification.
Expression of Interest
Your admission will also depend on the suitability of your proposed project and availability of supervision. The University requires you to complete a preliminary online Expression of Interest (EOI).
The EOI gives you a clear channel for enquiring about doctoral study and determining whether you can be accepted.
If you are a current student or staff member of the University, log in using your NetID and password.
If you have not previously attended The University of Auckland, you will need to first self-register at the start of the EOI process. Once you have been assigned a username and password you can log in to the EOI system.
Statement of Research Intent
Within the EOI you will be asked to submit a Faculty of Arts Statement of Research Intent.
Please note the Statement of Research Intent form is a generic template. For more information about providing a statement of research intent appropriate to your discipline contact the relevant Departmental Adviser.
