Admission for international students

The minimum entry requirements for international students to specific undergraduate degree programmes are listed below.

These requirements are intended as a guide only. Applicants may need to obtain a score higher than the one listed in the table below, depending on the level of other applicants for the same programme.

Other requirements in addition to those listed below may also be required, for example an audition or interview.

Before you check the academic entry requirements for specific degree programmes below, please ensure you have read our English language requirements.

In addition to meeting entry requirements set for domestic applicants, all international applicants with National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3 or University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) (taken in New Zealand) qualifications, will be competitively ranked in order to gain entrance to the programme of their choice.

To be admitted to The University of Auckland in 2013 and 2014 you need to gain a University Entrance qualification based on NCEA Level 3, University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) taken in New Zealand, International Baccalaureate (IB) or another recognised, equivalent qualification AND be selected into a programme.

Aggregate four subjects excluding ACG English.

For applicants applying for entry in 2013, minimum English Language Scores are IELTS 6.0 with no band below 5.5, or English for Academic Purposes (EAP) minimum grade B. Some degree programmes require higher scores; EAP does not apply to programmes which require an IELTS score of 6.5 or above.

Taylors Auckland Foundation Year

The degree specific minimum entry requirements from the Taylors Auckland Foundation Year (TAFY) are outlined below. These are effective for applicants applying for entry to The University of Auckland in 2013.

Applicants with a five-subject total where one subject is their first language will be considered on the basis of their four-subject total excluding their first language mark.

Applicants with a four-subject total where one subject is their first language will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

For applicants applying for entry in 2013, minimum English Language Scores are IELTS 6.0 with no band below 5.5, or English minimum score of 70%. Some degree programmes require higher scores; English minimum score of 70% does not apply to programmes which require an IELTS score of 6.5 or above. See details as specified in the table below.
