Obituary: Charity Cannon Willard
Christine de Pizan scholars lost a preeminent and much loved member of the community when Charity Cannon Willard passed away after a brief illness on June 5, 2005, at the age of 90. Professor Willard's unsurpassed biography of Christine de Pizan, Christine de Pizan: Her Life and Works, published in 1984, continues to introduce students and scholars to the fascinating story of the poet's life and works. Her editions of Christine's works include Le Livre de Paix, published in 1958 and Le Livre des trois vertus with Eric Hicks, published 1989. She also translated The Book of Deeds of Arms and of Chivalry with Sumner Willard in 1999. Her contributions to scholarship on Christine's works are legion. An international authority on Christine, Professor Willard was instrumental in establishing a place for the poet in the literary canon.
An exciting new project focused on Harley MS 4431 has recently received funding. Information at www.pizan.lib.ed.ac.uk
