Research | Current

For over 20 years, he has been focussing on narrative and metaphor as primary cognitive instruments by which human beings interpret the world around them. He has initiated a series of conferences, entitled "The Narrative-Metaphor Nexus" at which scholars from various disciplines investigate the role of both narrative and metaphor in the conceptual framing and everyday practice in their discipline. The first of these generated a special issue of the journal Genre: Forms of Discourse and Culture, 44: 3, 2011, entitled "Binocular Vision: Narrative and Metaphor in Medicine", which he edited and to which he contributed the intoductory essay. The second generated a book, Warring with Words: Narrative and Metapohor in Politics, Psychology Press, 2014, which he co-edited and to which, again, he contributed the introductory chapter.
