(forthcoming, 2011) I am currently working on a monograph based on my PhD research (as contracted by Pickering and Chatto Publishers).
"Writing the Prostitute: Representations of Prostitution in Victorian Britain"
My thesis analysed the construction and representation of the prostitute across a number of nineteenth-century literatures – parliamentary, medical, feminist, literary, and pornographic – and argues for the complexity and heterogeneity of Victorian attitudes to prostitution, rather than the static mythologies historians often impute to them.
