Become an FYE mentor

FYE mentors 2017

The Faculty of Arts’ First Year Experience Programme (FYE) partners incoming Arts students with a student mentor who will provide orientation and pastoral support in their first year.

This partnership will help to quickly integrate first year students into campus culture, making the transition to university study smoother.

You will be expected to devote a few hours per week to your duties.

As a mentor your tasks include:

  • Being a point of contact for a group of 35-40 first year Arts students (your mentees)
  • Helping at student events and Targeted Learning Sessions
  • Emailing your mentees on a weekly basis
  • Promptly responding to emails from your mentees
  • Tracking student contact using Google Sheets

The FYE mentor team is a tight knit group of students, and as a mentor you get to be part of a community, make new friends and be part of a well-established faculty programme.

FYE mentors learn valuable leadership and communication skills, and get hands on training and development throughout the whole year.

Mentors can use their volunteering experience to apply for a Leadership and Service Award, and get formal recognition on their transcripts for their work.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please submit an Expression of Interest before Wednesday 1 November 2017.

You must have completed two semesters of your degree to qualify for a mentor role.
