Scholarships for Māori and Pacific students in the Faculty of Arts.

Māori and Pacific Academic Excellence Scholarships

The main purpose of these scholarships is to recognise and reward exceptional academic performance combined with outstanding sporting, artistic, cultural and/or leadership achievements among Māori and Pacific students.

The provision of University accommodation is a major component of the scholarships, and is designed to provide the best student experience and promote excellent academic outcomes.

Ngāti Whātua Scholarships

The Scholarships were established in 2009 and are financed by the Faculty of Arts.

The purpose of the Scholarships is to further develop the relationship, based on the Memorandum of Understanding, between the University of Auckland and Ngāti Whātua o Ōrākei. This initiative will develop benefits for students of Ngāti Whātua o Ōrākei by supporting the Ōrākei Trust Board to realise their education goals. These Scholarships are intended to encourage Ngāti Whātua o Ōrākei students to study in the Faculty of Arts.

Tuākana Scholarships for Māori and Pacific Students

The Scholarships were established in 2009 to support Māori and Pacific students in their final year of undergraduate study. The Scholarships also aim to encourage students into postgraduate study.

Michael Synnott Scholarship

The scholarship was established by Mark and Sally Synnott in memory of Mark’s brother, Michael Synnott, to encourage students of Māori and Pacific descent residing or attending schools in the area commonly referred to as South Auckland to attend the University of Auckland.

Māori and Pacific Graduate Scholarships

When you apply for a place at the University, you will automatically be considered for a University of Auckland Māori Postgraduate Scholarship or a University of Auckland Pacific Postgraduate Scholarship — you don’t need to apply separately. Scholarship offers will be made soon after the confirmation of a place.
