Support for postgraduate students

Tuākana Arts - Postgraduate

Tuākana Arts supports Māori and Pacific students in postgraduate programmes by providing help with access to academic information, enrolment process navigation assistance and undergraduate to postgraduate transition support.

The postgraduate programme includes:

  • Writing retreats
  • Social and networking opportunities
  • Research skills seminars
  • Scholarship and funding application writing workshops
  • Scholarship and funding information and opportunities

The Tuākana postgraduate writing retreat is a chance for postgraduate students to escape the campus and work intensively on their research.

Māori students

The University is committed to promoting Māori presence and achievement in teaching, learning and research with the goal of contributing to Māori intellectual and cultural achievement. Visit the University’s web pages for Māori at the University.

Learning support

Te Fale Pouāwhina provides a friendly and professional service based on kaupapa Māori and Pacific principles. Find out more about Te Fale Pouāwhina.

Programmes for Māori pre-doctoral and doctoral students are offered by Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga (The National Institute of Research Excellence for Māori Development and Advancement).

  • The programme for doctoral students is Te Kupenga o Mai.
  • The pre-doctoral programme aims to advance Māori scholarship at honours and masters level. It focuses on communication and research skills, leadership and professional development.

The Fale Pasifika

The Fale Pasifika complex in Wynyard Street houses the Centre for Pacific Studies and the traditional Pacific fale, and is a home for Pacific students. Visit the faculty’s School of Māori Studies and Pacific Studies.
