Latin American Studies

Latin American Studies introduces you to the traditions, heritage and contemporary experience of Latin American nations and their people.

You can study topics ranging from First Nations and contemporary social movements to literature, film, music and cultural critique. We are also offering an introductory Portuguese language course and a course on Brazilian history for the first time in 2016.

Latin American Studies and your career

An understanding of Latin America could be useful for a career in diplomacy, government service, NGOs, journalism, tourism and education, as well as in New Zealand companies which export to or invest in Latin America.

Latin American Studies is available for undergraduate and PhD programmes and is coordinated by the School of Cultures, Languages and Linguistics.
