What can you study in Gender Studies?

Gender Studies covers a wide range of topics, such as politics, history, society, literature and education. Courses focus on areas such as gender and the home, workplace and public life, gender and violence, Pacific island cultures and gender relations, and the portrayals of gender in popular culture.

You can also take a range of courses from other subjects in Arts including History, Anthropology and Sociology.

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Gender Studies

The BA(Hons) is a stand-alone degree at postgraduate level. It may be taken after a completed BA and is awarded as a separate qualification. The BA(Hons) may be used as the entry qualification for the one year MA.

Admission requirements

A BA with a major in Gender Studies or Women's Studies. You must have an average grade of B or higher in 45 points above Stage II in the major.

Master of Arts

The MA in Gender Studies is available as a 120-point, one-year option. Students who have completed a BA(Hons) or equivalent qualification in an appropriate subject, with a Grade Point Average of 5 in 45 points above Stage II, may be approved for enrolment in the MA in Gender Studies.

120-point (one-year) MA

The 120-point MA requires one year of full-time study, with admission from a BA(Hons) or PGDipArts. The MA in Gender Studies is available as a research masters.

A BA(Hons) or PGDipArts in Gender Studies, Women’s Studies or similar programmes, with a Grade Point Average of 5 in 45 points above Stage II.
