English at the University of Auckland involves the study of texts of all kinds. We examine fiction, drama and poetry, and also other types of writing.

English and your career

English provides excellent training in critical thinking, analytical skills and in organising and expressing your ideas.

Study options in English

English offers diverse opportunities to study the literature of different eras and countries. You can also focus on writing itself - the theories that relate to it, and your own writing practice. You can explore the intersections between literature and art, critical and creative practices.

English is available for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and is taught by English, Drama and Writing Studies in the School of Humanities.
