About the School of Humanities

We were ranked 25th in the world for arts and humanities in the QS World University Rankings for 2017.

Strong and vibrant humanities disciplines are a hallmark of all world-class comprehensive universities. Academic staff in our school have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and research, driven by our belief that the humanities are of intrinsic value to society today.

We offer opportunities for study and research in areas as diverse as New Zealand art, history and literature, the culture of classical antiquity and European philosophy.

Our School actively engages with other institutions both within New Zealand and overseas, hosting visiting scholars and encouraging student exchanges. We enjoy links to organisations such as the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice, the Michael King Writers' Centre and the British School at Rome.
