The New Zealand Centre for Latin American Studies (NZCLAS)

The New Zealand Centre for Latin American Studies (NZCLAS) is New Zealand’s only interdisciplinary research centre focused on Latin America. Founded and based at The University of Auckland, it was officially launched on May 21, 2004 by the Hon Phil Goff, then Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The aims of the Centre are:

  • To be a leading Asia-Pacific Centre for Latin American research and teaching.
  • To provide an academic forum for discussion and debate on policy issues of interest to New Zealand and Latin America.
  • To promote dialogue between, and serve as a point of access for, scholars, officials, business people and community groups involved in the New Zealand-Latin American relationship.
