Postgraduate study opportunities in Italian

We offer a full range of postgraduate programmes in Italian, from the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) to the PhD.

Courses are taught by staff who specialise areas such as:

  • Film studies: contemporary Italian film and female directors
  • Theatre studies: Renaissance, modern and contemporary Italian theatre
  • Translation studies: Italian literary and technical translation, film subtitling
  • Cultural, postcolonial and migration studies
  • Feminism and gender studies
  • Italian popular culture: romance, crime, adventure stories, science fiction, comic books and graphic novels

We aim to prepare our students to become effective teachers of Italian as well as capable and creative scholars. We therefore offer students employment opportunities as Graduate Teaching Assistants whenever possible.

PhD students

We welcome enquiries from New Zealand and international students who wish to undertake doctoral research.

You will be supervised by our researchers and have access to a range of resources to assist you in your academic and professional development. These can include graduate teaching assistantships, scholarships and writing stipends, funds to cover direct research costs and access to library and computing facilities.
