Study abroad in German

We encourage you to study in German-speaking countries to enrich your language studies through cultural experience.

If you are in your second or third year of study, you can take language and culture courses in a German-speaking country (for a minimum of three weeks, including at least sixty hours of taught classes) under the Study Abroad courses GERMAN 277, 278, 377 or 378.

As an Honours or Masters student you can take university level language and culture courses in a German-speaking country Study Abroad courses GERMAN 777 and 778.

The University Winter Course in German Studies (Deutschlandkundlicher Hochschulwinterkurs)

This is the most popular study abroad option offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The DAAD offers scholarships to suitably qualified students to undertake a four to six-week course on German culture and language at universities in Germany. Participating universities include the Universities of Essen, Freiburg, and Leipzig and the Freie Universität Berlin.

The Goethe Institute

The Goethe Institute offers language courses in Berlin, Bonn, Bremen, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Freiburg, Göttingen, Hamburg, Heidelberg, Mannheim, Munich, Schwäbisch-Hall and Weimar.
