About the School of Cultures, Languages and Linguistics

Our school encompasses applied language studies and linguistics; cultures, languages and literatures; translation and interpreting.

We are one of the top 100 schools in the world for modern languages and linguistics.* Study opportunities in our school include a range of Asian and European languages and cultures, qualifications in language teaching, translation and interpreting, and an internationally leading programme in applied language studies and linguistics. Our courses on literature and film, taught by top researchers, open up whole new perspectives on the world. We also offer exciting cultural courses that cross national and disciplinary boundaries.

Our teaching staff includes researchers internationally recognised as leaders in their fields. The school is the centre of New Zealand’s academic expertise in Asian and European studies. We collaborate with colleagues across the school, the University and beyond.
