“I completed a Tertiary Foundation Certificate before beginning my Bachelor of Arts. Being out of school for ten years before I came to university, I felt it would be beneficial to learn the ropes before I started my degree and I’m glad that I did.

“The TFC has to be one of the most rewarding courses for adult students and those who didn’t finish high school. It’s a challenge, but well worth it.

“I enjoy the abstract and creative thinking involved with Writing Studies and the challenge of justifying a political position or argument. The reading load can sometimes be a bit heavy, but having a study plan or strategy is helpful with that.

“I would like to pursue a career that uses my writing ability – perhaps government policy, technical writing, copywriting, public relations or possibly continuing on to a PhD.

“The Faculty of Arts has been a welcoming and challenging environment. The lecturers and tutors are very capable and astute and many enjoy pushing you to develop your abilities, at whatever level they may be.

“Even if you think studying Arts might not be your thing, it will develop you as a person and teach you how to justify, how to question the information and happenings around you, and develop your ability to look at things from different perspectives.”
