“I wanted to leave the US because I figured I would probably work there, and Auckland seemed like a great city that was also close to cool outdoor activities.

“It was amazing to see international relations from a different perspective than what I was used to coming from the US, and in my experience the students, professors, and tutors in the Faculty of Arts are all really nice, knowledgeable and open-minded.

“I have enjoyed studying the intricacies of global politics, as well as learning about the different policies carried out by governments around the world. It really opened my eyes to the many different strategies and outlooks that are present in the world.

“The most important skill that I have gained from my study is critical thinking. Because most of the essay and exam questions are relatively open ended, I think the Politics and International Relations major does a really god job of teaching you how to formulate an argument very quickly, and then how to convincingly make that argument.”
