“I am currently in my second year studying towards a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Politics and International Relations and Theological and Religious Studies.

“Every subject that I have studied for my BA has given me the language and concepts to understand and describe more of who I am, what my life has been about and where it might lead. My BA has become so much more than about acquiring knowledge.

“My Arts study has shown me how to make a tangible difference in people’s lives, and contribute to making the world a better place. My BA has already provided me with the confidence to attend to issues of injustice — and I haven’t even completed by degree yet!

“Currently I am aiming towards a career in development where intercultural and interfaith disciplines are required.

“The Faculty of Arts covers a wide spectrum of learning, and as a mature student on campus, the opportunity to meet staff and students alike in a mutually encouraging environment has been a pleasant surprise.

“There is plenty to do on campus, including meeting people both in class and in clubs, and the central city location of the University of Auckland means we’re not isolated from other cultural aspects of our daily lives.

“I was born and raised in Auckland and repeated that exercise with my own family, so the University of Auckland was a logical choice for me to develop both as person as well as towards a career.

“Doing courses in the Faculty of Arts is a must! Even doing so as part of another degree, Arts papers only enhance and encourage your learning and view of the world and your place within it.

“It’s one thing to learn your craft, but another to know what to do with it. The Faculty of Arts gives you exactly that.”
