“I’ve always loved film and television, (as is true of all ‘90s kids, I think) and so when I saw there was an opportunity to study it at tertiary level I jumped at it. I love learning about my interests and hobbies in an academic environment, and there are some really great film courses available at the University of Auckland. Commerce is also great as an eye-opener to the world we live in, and how to stand out in the sea of graduates once University is over.

“It’s a lot of work, but really rewarding and I can’t wait to see the opportunities available to me at the end of it all.

“Auckland is a great city to be in, and the University of Auckland is an obvious choice when delving in to tertiary education for academic subjects. The city campus is centrally located and there are good facilities – like places to eat and the recreation centre – just a short walk away.

“The student lifestyle is enjoyable at Auckland. People are friendly and willing to help, and there are lots of clubs to join and ways to meet new people. The Arts faculty is particularly good at this, I feel!

“Being a student in the Faculty of Arts is great fun. This year I took Drama 204 as a full-year course, and I absolutely love it. The bond our class has formed is incredible and we’ve actually just finished our major staging assessment, Oh What a Lovely War. We sold out every night! It was amazing.

“I’d say to new students ‘Get amongst!’ Don’t waste any time not getting involved in things. Sign up and get yourself out there.”
