Caroline is completing a Master of Creative Writing

“After ten years of owning Nova Models, Talent & Actors, and five years looking after my young children, it was time to return to my first love—writing. My goal was always the Master of Creative Writing at the University of Auckland, because it is dedicated to actually writing, and it is convened by Paula Morris.

“The MCW allows you to focus wholeheartedly on a book project, without having to disengage to work on academic essays and research. It is a creative immersion program focused on completing the best possible version of your book.

“I enjoy the small class size, the critique process, and the camaraderie that a small class fosters. Classroom hours are minimal so that you have time for reading, critiquing colleagues' work, and most importantly, writing.

“As part of the course we have been introduced to industry heavyweights such as Penguin Random House's Debra Millar and the head of literature at Creative New Zealand. Through the course I also gained an internship at the New Zealand Society of Authors, and the opportunity to MC two events at the Auckland Writers Festival.

“The master class that we did as part of the programme with Nigerian poet and novelist Ben Okri was two of the most influential hours of my entire writing life.”
