Book in progress

I am presently working on a sole-authored volume entitled Memory and Imagination. This study builds on the political, historical and psychosocial analysis already developed in Noche y Niebla. As such, this research chooses the art produced in post-authoritarian Chile (1990-present) to demonstrate to what extent the arts and culture have facilitated the working through of trauma by re-presenting the atrocities of the dictatorship, or by providing a forum where, through the means and non-instrumental goals of the imagination, it is possible to transmit and purge those traumatic memories, therefore assisting in a social healing process. This research attempts to display the ways in which aesthetics serve to restitute ethical imperatives.
