Arts student sings with the Rolling Stones

25 November 2014

Luana Prictor was part of the choir that backed the Rolling Stones during their encore on Saturday night at Mt Smart Stadium.

The New Zealand Youth Choir, with whom Luana sings soprano, were chosen to sing the iconic choral part to You Can’t Always Get What You Want – originally performed by the London Bach Choir - in front of more than 36,000 people. Prictor said she was pleased with how the choir sang and that it was an incredibly exciting and quite surreal experience.

Luana is currently completing her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) after finishing a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music conjoint last year. She is majoring in German and Classical Performance (Voice) and has achieved high marks and several awards and scholarships throughout her studies on top of being an active musician.

Luana described the concert as incredibly efficient and run like clockwork. The choir’s only glimpse of the band before performing was during sound check and there was – unfortunately – no partying afterwards.

Luana is the daughter of Pauline Prictor, a member of the popular 1970s New Zealand/Samoan singing group the Yandall Sisters. She has been involved in choral singing since high school and has toured Canada with the New Zealand Secondary Schools' Choir and England with the University of Auckland Chamber Choir.
