Students successful in Korean speech competition

28 October 2016

Five students studying Korean in the Faculty of Arts placed highly in a recent speech competition organised as part of the Korea Festival in Auckland.

Four of them took all of the prizes in the beginners division: Qiaoying Cherry Nie received the first prize, Gayatri Adi received the second prize, and Sarah Deng and Chang Kay Liu came third.

In the intermediate division, Michael Tracey received the second prize.

Students from the Korean Education Centre and King Sejong Institute also participated.

In the contest, participants spoke about one of three topics: the most memorable gift that I have received; the place where I would like to travel or live; or aspects of Korean culture that I have experienced.

The Korea Festival in Auckland turned Auckland into a Korean cultural playground for the month of October, with free events taking place right throughout the month, celebrating Korean food, music, art and film.

The Festival was organised by the Korean Consulate in Auckland to celebrate the unique relationship between New Zealand and Korea.
