The scholars, whose research interests encompass Marxist theory and criticism, were in Australasia for a China Road conference in Newcastle, Australia.

The visiting scholars presented their work at two research workshops, attended by academics and postgraduate students from across the Faculty.

More informal exchanges took place over lunch.

Deputy Dean, Professor Bernadette Luciano, said that “I view the conversations that took place between the visitors and academics and PhD students from across the Faculty as the first step in building a deeper relationship that could well lead to research collaborations, joint workshops, and staff and student exchanges.”

“I was particularly pleased to see so many of our PhD students participate in the discussion.”

Bernadette welcomed the scholars on behalf of the Faculty alongside Associate Dean Research, Professor Christine Arkinstall, before morning tea.

The visit was proposed by Dr Caroline Blyth of Theological and Religious Studies, and the Faculty’s Research Development Manager Dr Lynette Read and Director of the Confucius Institute Dr Nora Yao provided valuable support in facilitating the event.

The scholars gifted the Faculty a magnificently worked plate and a copy of their refereed journal, International Critical Thought, published by Routledge.
