We warmly invite you to join us for a short interactive symposium to explore the value of kindness in creativity and pedagogy. In this two-hour session we will dance, draw and discuss how kindness might shape our practice as creative and engaged teachers. We welcome participants from all disciplines.

Agencies of Kindness is an interdisciplinary research group sponsored by the Faculty of Arts with participation from across the University of Auckland. The collaborative project responds to the currency that the concept of kindness has in the contemporary political environment. We aim to consider how a politics of kindness, broadly conceived, might be taken up across a wide variety of areas, both within and outside of the University. We are especially focused on the particularities of the Aotearoa context, and in the power of concepts such as manaakitanga and atawhai as points of social orientation and commitment. The research asks how kindness might promote social transformation at both the individual and institutional level, and in how networks of kindness might build resilience.

As part of our activities in 2019, we are holding a series of short symposiums that each consider kindness from different perspectives: creativity and pedagogy, economies and ecologies, politics and policy.

For further information, please contact Emma Willis at emma.willis@auckland.ac.nz. We would appreciate RSVPs so that we have an idea of numbers, however it’s also fine to turn up on the day. We also invite you to stay after 5pm for refreshments and some more informal conversation.
