Associate Profesor Lisa Bailey | Dr Jeremy Armstrong

Lisa Bailey and Jeremy Armstrong will talk about their respective Marsden Grant projects. Lisa’s project is entitled 'Servants of God, Slaves of the Church: Rhetoric and Realities of Service in Early Medieval Europe' and explores the metaphor of service to God as a pious ideal, in a world where churches, monasteries and religious figures relied intimately upon the labour of actual servants and slaves. Jeremy’s project is entitled 'Blood and Money: The Military Industrial Complex in Archaic Central Italy' and investigates the development, manufacture, supply, and maintenance of military equipment in the ancient Mediterranean using archaic Central Italy as a case study.
