Bringing together some of the brightest minds and best communicators, the conference will not only shed light on the past but provides insights in to New Zealand’s present and future. The theme this year is Tāmaki Herenga Waka: Where Histories Meet, celebrating Auckland as a meeting place of people, of culture and of ideas from throughout New Zealand and across the world.

The conference is hosted by the NZHA executive committee. Its regular features include the long-standing J. C. Beaglehole lecture, the Wiremu Maihi Te Rangikāheke memorial lecture which was established in association with Te Pouhere Kōrero, and biennial prizes outstanding works of New Zealand history. This year the conference will include a keynote panel invited to discuss New Zealand history past, present, and future in celebration of the 50-year anniversary of the New Zealand Journal of History.
